LXQt in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

LXQt is a new lightweight desktop environment, the mergence of LXDE and Razor-Qt, its a new open source desktop  environment that aims to bring LXDE with various dedicated applications in QT.

Installing LXQt 0.7.0 in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

To installing LXQt 0.7.0 in Ubuntu 14.04 you need add the PPA (lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily and gilir/q-project) on your system. The both PPA support for ubuntu previous version (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 11.10, Ubuntu 11.04) and derivatives. Use the following command to add the PPAs and installing LXQt 0.7.0:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gilir/q-project
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lxqt-metapackage lxqt-panel openbox

Once the installation is complete, logout from your current session of Ubuntu. Click the icon in the upper-right of the Ubuntu login screen and corner will be a menu with all the options currently desktop environments installed. the latest addition to this list will be the “LXQt Desktop.” Click on this and then put your login credentials to enter and confirm the new environment.
